Adams developed this purist approach into the zone system, a controlled method of determining exposure and development. In 1932, with Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston, and others, Adams founded the group f/64, which promoted use of large-format view cameras, small lens apertures, and contact printing. Adams was born in San Francisco, and trained as a musician his interest in photography was catalyzed when he met Paul Strand in 1930. His visionary belief in the redemptive beauty of wilderness was expressed in grand images that have popularized art photography among the American public. The influence of Ansel Adams on photography is immeasurable, and his long career as photographer, teacher, conservationist, and writer is legendary.

It’s possible to get an indicator of data quality on suicides by looking at the ratio of unexpected deaths to suicides. 2 This can also be why some countries appear to have rising suicide rates, if the rates of misclassification decline.

That's ultimately the biggest problem with Earwig and the Witch - one that, sadly, Goro Miyazaki brought over from Diana Wynne Jones' original novel: not much happens. One can probably make a drinking game for every time Bella Yaga threatens to give someone worms or the Mandrake tells people not to disturb him. It isn't the actors' fault that the dialogue often is repetitive. Grant's Mandrake for being distinct and intimidating while also showing vulnerability. The voice acting, both in the original Japanese and the English dub, is also fairly good. The best-looking character is the Mandrake because his facial animation is the most dynamic. The characters all look very distinct as well, though their often stiff facial expressions and unnaturally smooth skin sometimes make them look like dolls. The film does some beautiful things with Bella Yaga's house, especially the filthy workroom. The set and character designs are lovingly rendered. Considering Goro Miyazaki had to create a new team of animators from the ground up without any help from the more experienced Ghibli animators, he did quite well. Earwig and the Witch drew a lot of controversy for its use of CG animation. |
